Hi Olly,
I have just updated from v2.6…. and went through some fixing, most of it looks find though.
One thing that has changes is that even if a category, say
[wppizza showadditives="0" category='dezert']
doesn’t have any items, it will still show with the title and text “no results found”.Previously, empty categories would just not show.
Previous behaviour makes much more sense for food menus – why show people that “today we didn’t prepare the main course, just soups”? Showing empty category reminds them of that. Not showing empty cateogry just focuses them on other items.
Or we should at least have an option to “display empty categories=y/n” somewhere in the settings?
example: https://bistropolievocka.sk/dnesne-menu/
Thanks!
Lukas2 November, 2017 at 7:01 am #32175Additionally – it was possible to have a different placeholder image for each category before:
.wppizza-article-dessert-58 .wppizza-article-img-placeholder
but not anymore it seems?
.wppizza-article-grid .wppizza-article-image .wppizza-article-image-placeholder
Or am I missing something?
2 November, 2017 at 2:46 pm #32192re empty categories:
if memory serves me right there was actually a/some reason why it shows “no results” in v3 instead of it being not shown at all.
that said, as i cannot really remember what the thinking was behind it, i will add an option in the layout settings that will be enabled by default, but can be disabled again if needs be, to the next update of the plugin which will not show empty categories (as that kind of makes sense to me too)re placeholder image:
the classes are pretty much the same. but it’s not using an image but a font/content, so you’ll have to override the .wppizza-article-image-placeholder:before pseudo selector3 November, 2017 at 1:45 pm #32237Hi Olly,
re empty categories – think that’s the best solution, thanks. Any timing on the update release?
re placeholder image – will play around with the CSS and see.
thanks,

Seems to work just fine, thank you!
7 November, 2017 at 12:46 pm #32412Hi Olly,
last question – I have no menu items assigned to category main dish. but WordPress seems to think there’s one, so it always shows main dish shortcode, even if empty. https://bistropolievocka.sk/en/daily-menu/
I deleted all revisions, checked all wppizza menu items but they don’t have any category assigned to them.
Now I’m trying to find the entries in the database, maybe I need to manually delete it, but no luck – can you let me know what table are wppizza menu items stored? or their category data?
thanks,
Lukas7 November, 2017 at 1:28 pm #32413i think (I’m reasonably certain in fact) this might have to do with wppizza not accounting for WPML implementations when I added that option i talked about earlier in this thread
let me check and fix this . you dont have to do anything7 November, 2017 at 1:35 pm #32414ah, I see – will try to clear out old WPML translations, it sometimes duplicates things. thanks for the pointer!
It doesn’t do it for all categories, to I think it’s just a translation duplicate somewhere, not a systematic issue with all WPML mutations.
7 November, 2017 at 1:39 pm #32415>will try to clear out old WPML translation
sure, you can do that, but won’t help with the issue I don’t think. it’s something that needs fixing in wppizza(typically that’s not an issue of course as menu items will have their translated equivalent in each category)
7 November, 2017 at 1:44 pm #32416is there anything I can do then? what could fix it?
there’s more categories, like Drinks, that show 0 items, although WPML is used for those too. But only Soups and Main Dish categories have 1 item each that’s not really there:
https://snag.gy/ZbNa1D.jpg7 November, 2017 at 1:49 pm #32417but from what i can make out , your “Main Dish” (as an example) only has menu items in your main language, not in your translations (or am i wrong ?)
